Confed crown for Savannah

Savannah SC crowned themselves 2014-15 Charley's JM Rum Western Confederation Super League champions, after outclassing Wadadah FC 2-1 yesterday at the Frome Sports Complex for a 3-1 aggregate victory that places them into the All-Island Premier League play-offs.

The home team took a 1-0 first-leg advantage into the game and before long looked the more likely to open the scoring on the slick Frome turf.

Victory for Savannah was a repeat of their 2011-12 final and was made safe with goals in the 42nd minute from the penalty spot on Ron Daley's 17th goal of the season and a beautiful 50th-minute blast from Leaton Galloway.

Keniel Moodie made it interesting with a thunderous strike in the 87th minute, but it was little too late.

Omar Stewart from Savannah was issued a second caution in the 83rd minute, but the hosts were never in trouble as they put a wrap on a season they described as destiny fulfilled.

SWEET VICTORY

"This is a sweet victory. It wasn't the best of underfoot conditions but we played with purpose and the win was all we wanted," cited Savannah head coach Marvin Quarrie.

"Now we will get straight into preparations for the play-offs. We know it's a first step towards where we need to be," he said.

Wadadah's coach Daniel Ricketts said the penalty call made the difference, noting that up until that moment, his team was in with chance.

"It was that penalty call that turned the game against us. We fought back and got a goal but it came a little too late ..."

"We will just have to regroup again for next season," said Ricketts.
