UPDATE: Netherlands withdraws protest after claiming Powell impeded athlete
Officials of The Netherlands have backed down after lodging a protest against Jamaica's 4X100 male relay team.
The Dutch officials had contended that team captain Asafa Powell impeded their athlete.
The Dutch said Powell crossed lanes when receiving the baton and when handing it over.
He was reported to have impeded the Dutch athlete while making his exchange to Rasheed Dwyer on the third leg.
However, after examining a video recording of the race with IAAF referees and with the secretary to the Jury of Appeal, the Dutch officials decided to not proceed with the protest.
The Jamaican team of Nesta Carter, Asafa Powell, Rasheed Dwyer and Nickel Ashmeade crossed the line first with a season best of 37.41.
The Netherlands finished sixth.
