Roberts lifts W'House to win over Humble Lion

Oshane Roberts' 54th minute goal gave Waterhouse a 2-1 Red Stripe Premier League win over high-riding Humble Lion at Drewsland Stadium yesterday, giving the home team their first win in four games, while ending Humble Lion's three game winning streak.

Wolry Wolfe spectacularly fired the visitors in front after nine minutes but Evan Taylor put the host back on even terms from the penalty spot, after Gary McIntosh was brought down inside the area.
Roberts then sealed the win with a low strike inside the far-post nine minutes after the break.
"It's a great win, we needed the three points and we came out and did it. We dug deep and fought hard to get the three points," Roberts told The Gleaner after the game. 
However, the player who says scoring goals is normal for him is looking to add to his tally in the next game.

"My performance (this season) is not a hundred percent but it's fair to me but it is always an overwhelming feeling to score a winner and it feels great to get off the mark," he said.
The game was just nine minutes old when Wolfe's acrobatic half-volley gave Richard McCallum no chance in goal. However, when McIntosh was fouled in the box, Taylor made no mistake from the spot.

Both teams were evenly matched for the most part but after the break Waterhouse created the better opportunities and deservedly went ahead when Sean Coleman's shot hit the bar and fell to Kenroy Howell, whose shot was also blocked. However, there was nothing that anyone could do to stop Roberts' low shot that hit the bar and went in.

"He's a very good player but at times he has to be more calm and collective, sometimes he let his youthful exuberance get the better of him but he has been doing this all season and the last few games they (shots) were hitting off defenders, so it's about time one went in," Waterhouse coach Anthony Patrick said of Roberts.

He added that. "It's the first since I have been coaching that I have lost three games consecutively... so I had a serious talk with them and they dig deep and worked hard for this one."

The win lifted Waterhouse (10 points) off the foot of the table temporarily, as they are one point above Cavalier, who play Harbour View tonight.

In other games, Mobay stopped Rivoli 3-0 to stay top of the league with 24 points. Portmore (21) stayed second after a 1-0 win over Arnett Gardens. UWI stunned Tivoli Gardens 5-2 on Girvon Brown's hattrick to jump from second-to-last to nine with 12 points. Tivoli (14) slipped one place to sixth. Boys Town (15) turned back Reno 2-0 on Andre Dawson's brace to climb three spots to fifth. Reno (14) dropped two places to seventh.
