ROME, Italy:
Former World Junior champion Janieve Russell thrilled in the women's 400m hurdles, continuing her impressive season with a world leading time on her way to victory at the Golden Gala Rome Diamond League at the Stadio Olimpico today.

Russell, who was coming off a win at the Rabat Diamond League event a few weeks ago, again topped a quality to field that also included sixth placed finishing Jamaican Kaliese Spencer (55.51), as she stopped the clock at 53.96, the fastest time in the world this year and her best ever.

South African Wenda Theron Nel, 54.61 was second with Eilidh Doyle, 54.81 finishing third.

"I just wanted to finish the race injury free because the really important day will be at the Olympics but I'm really pleased, I'm putting in the work with Stephen Francis, I have great teammates, friends and family motivating me and that's really pushing me right now," Russell told The Gleaner.
