North Street rivals clash in Roper Cup

The 50th renewal of the annual Roper Cup football extravaganza between North Street rivals St George's College (the 2015 Flow Cup champions) and Kingston College (Roper Cup defending champions) will be held today at Emmet Park, St George's College.

Action will begin early. The first match starts at 10 a.m. with the Under-14 teams, followed by the Under-16 teams. These teams will play for the George Thompson Trophy, which will be decided by the aggregate score.

The Roper Cup is played between the Under-35 and the current Manning Cup teams (again decided by the aggregate score line).

In between the Under-35 and Manning Cup match will be the Over-35 match for players from both institutions. The Over-35s will play for the Pancho Rankine Cup.

The day's matches will showcase the football skills of many former Manning Cup greats from both schools, including this year's honourees Maurice Rhoden and Derrick "Sastri" Denniser.

This year's event will feature a family oriented entertainment package. There will also be spot prizes and giveaways throughout the day from the event's sponsors.
