Burger King road race series begins Nov 6
The annual Burger King-sponsored road race series will get under way on Sunday, November 6 with the staging of the Burger King 'Run Di Road' 10K at the Portmore Mall starting at 6:30 a.m.
A 4x1500-metre relay for students will coincide with the 10K event and for this year's staging entries here will be opened to tertiary institutions for the first time.
Race director Alfred 'Franno' Francis is very excited about the addition of the tertiary students.
"We have been overwhelmed with the entries in the relays, and with the fierce competition now among the collegiate teams their presence will surely add a lot of flavour to the meet as students after leaving high schools are now now adapting well in the senior programme and we do not want to leave them out," Francis said recently.
According to Francis, competing in the relays will help those athletes in the sprints with good background work in preparation for their events.
He also stated that one of the aims of the Burger King 10K is to develop and promote long-distance running in Jamaica and prepare athletes to compete in the annual Reggae Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K event scheduled to be held in Negril on Saturday, December 3.
