Former champion jockey Shane Ellis registered a brilliant four-timer on yesterday's 10-race programme at Caymanas Park. His wins included WILL IN CHARGE in the feature Owen Silvera Memorial Cup over 1600 metres.

Saving his best for last, the 44-year-old jockey rode a well-timed race to guide the 8-5 second favourite WILL IN CHARGE to a length-and-a-half victory over SUPERLUMINAL. The winner is trained by Robert Pearson.

Ellis's other winners on the card were HEAT IT UP in the second race for trainer Tyrone Prince, SWEET PEPPA in the seventh race for trainer Richard Azan, and COUNTER ATTACK in the eighth event for veteran trainer Robert Darby senior.

ELLIS DELIGHTED

Ellis, who last won the jockey's title in 2015, was delighted with his performance.

"It's a good feeling because it has been a long time since I have ridden four races in a day," said Ellis. "I am back to myself, feeling fit and well, and I am happy for that."

Reflecting on his performance aboard WILL IN CHARGE, Ellis said: "I got a good break, and I was pleased about that, and I just sat behind the speed. I was three wide because I had Omar Walker (LOTTERY TICKET) beside me, and he couldn't move, and the space opened up, and I asked my horse to go and he moved well."

Ellis is second in the jockeys' championships with 31 winners this year. Champion jockey Walker, who rode MR AMBASSADOR to victory in Race Four for champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, leads the standings with 55 wins.

Racing continues at the track next Saturday.
