Roman Tavares-Finson 'A' Class shooter at 14

Roman Tavares-Finson created history at the Jamaica Skeet Club (JSC) in Portmore on Sunday, when he became, at age 14, the youngest ever local shooter to qualify for the 'A' class section.

The young prodigy was in sparkling form at the 'You can do anything, Jamaica Society for the Blind Charity Shoot', producing an impressive 93 from 100 birds, to win the category five birds clear of Robin Rickhi (88).

However, he is not overly concerned about making the step up in class as a youngster and says that with good practice he should be competing with the 'best of the best' in the sport very soon. He also vows not to change anything for now.

"I have worked hard and it feels good to finally achieve this. It has been a rough journey since I started in the hunters class. Then and I went from hunters to 'D' (Class) and now I am here (A class)," he said.

But the young star says he does not intend to do anything different although he hopes to make life rough for his more seasoned campaigners in the top shooting class.

"Of course I think I can compete with them (top shooters). I will practice and hopefully I will get to be on their level. I will go in it (A class) with the same attitude and shoot how I normally shoot. So I won't be doing anything different," he insisted.

Tavares-Finson was one of the strongest in the 'C' and junior classes for most of last year. However, he topped both categories at the (JSC) Summer Classics earlier this month, when he was promoted to 'B' Class, and after his outstanding display again on Sunday, he was again rewarded with a place among the big boys..

"I feel very good about the achievement," he added.
