St George's College coach Neville 'Bertis' Bell was full of praise for the Sabina Park surface after his team's comfortable 2-0 win over Garvey Maceo in their ISSA Champions Cup quarter final match yesterday.

"This is what we wanted, we like these surfaces, it's what we train on, so we always think we will do well on a good surface," he said.

'But we wanted the win, we are still unbeaten and we thank God for the victory," he added.

St George's won on strikes from Emelio Rousseau and Damani Harris.

Deadlock broken

Rousseau broke the deadlock after only two minutes when he fired home a wonderful free kick.

Although Garvey Maceo were not outplayed they found it hard to create any real openings.

St George's added a second with perhaps the team goal of the season.

The North Street-based team made a series of intricate passing moves from the back which ended up with Damani Harris lifting the ball past the Garvey Macro goalkeeper.

Captain Anjay Gayle came closest to a goal for the rural side, but his header skimmed the crossbar and went over.

Garvey Macro came out with a lot of purpose in the second half but still found it difficult to break down a well organised St George's defence.

In fact it was St George's who continued to create good chances. The best came in the 81st minute when Chantamoi Taylor rattled the bar.
