Pre-race favourite, Romel Plummer of Kingston College, had to settle for second in the Championships of America, High School Boy's 400m hurdles at Penn Relays in Philadelphia, USA.

Competing in cold conditions, Plummer, who has been unbeaten all season, was in close contention all the way and looked like maintaining his unbeaten run this season, before a slight fumble over the final barrier caused him to lose his momentum.

Plummer stopped the clock at 52.58 seconds as Ryler Gould out of Newburgh, won in 52.55 seconds. Kingston College's Rasheed Samuels fell in the event and failed to finish.
