Penn Relays | St Jago end 4x100m drought with big upset over KC
PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania
St Jago High school picked up their first win in 12 years in the High School Boys Championships of America 4x100m relay today at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, after a big upset over favourites Kingston College (KC).
The quartet of Rasheed Broadbell, Vashaun Vascianna, Javari Thomas and Kavian Kerr, stopped the clock at 40.83 seconds, getting the better of Kingston College, who were second in 40.86 seconds with defending champions Calabar finishing third in 41.05 seconds.
After a good opening leg from Wayne Pinnock, which put KC in the lead, St Jago took advantage of a slight fumble on the final exchange by the boys from North Street with Kerr keeping his cool to hold off Oshane Peart of KC for top honours in the event.
Head coach of St Jago Marlon Gayle was of course pleased with his team's winning effort. "We did our home work as we saw what the other teams did in the preliminary round and worked on the dynamics so I am not surprised with the win, as we spoke before the race and we knew once the stick went around, we had a chance," said Gayle.
