Waterhouse to host Friday night RSPL matches

In order to make it easier for fans to attend their games, Waterhouse FC have secured permission from the Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA) to host Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) matches on Friday nights.

The club will host its first Friday night game on December 6 against Mount Pleasant Academy in what will be a clash of two of the top teams in the league’s table.

Donovan White, president of the Drewsland-based football club, believes that it makes sense commercially for at least one RSPL match to be played on Friday nights as it would give football fans in the Corporate Area an ­opportunity to be entertained after work.

“I think it makes the product (the Red Stripe Premier League) more attractive and consumer-friendly,” said White. “We are hoping that it is something that can be adopted right across the board for those clubs that can host.

“We thought that it would be better for it to be played on a Friday night because no more games would be on and [it would]therefore provide the fans in and around the Corporate Area a chance to come out and enjoy a good Friday night game.”

While praising the initiative, president of the PLCA Mike Henry said that the body has to develop a holistic perspective on the matter as not all 12 clubs are capable of benefiting from such plans right now.

“Whatever can expand the ­interest of football the clubs will collectively look at,” Henry said.
