Ferrari have admitted to holding talks with Formula One (F1) world champion Lewis Hamilton about him joining their team.

Discussions with Ferrari chairman John Elkann were confirmed by its chief executive officer Louis Carey Camilleri at a media launch.

Camilleri says Ferrari have drawn the interest of not only Hamilton, but other drivers, but the team will not rush to a decision as it is weighing all options and hopes the right one will be made in a timely manner.

But Hamilton had said earlier this month that he is open to leaving Mercedes and would be “considering his next move carefully.

“I love where I am, so it is definitely not a quick decision to go and do something else,” he said.

However, at that time, he would neither confirm nor deny having such talks with Elkann in Italy twice this year but said he was waiting to know whether Mercedes F1 principal Torger ‘Toto’ Wolff will remain with the team for next season.

Hamilton, who is 35 next month and will be seeking a record-equalling seventh world title in 2020, comes to the end of his Mercedes contract next season.
