King Arthur reigns supreme with easy win
LAST year’s Jamaica Derby winner, KING ARTHUR , toyed with JAMAI RAJA for the first half-mile, before taking charge of yesterday’s World Vet Day Trophy race, completing a mile in 1:39.3.
Considering he set his own pace, KING ARTHUR won comfortably enough with Anthony Thomas, leaving EL PROFESOR and MARQUESAS scrambling for second place, almost four lengths away.
Having beaten overnight allowance runners for his second win in approximately two weeks since returning off a three-month break, KING ARTHUR will next face open allowance/graded stakes company.
Thomas, who landed a four-timer on Friday’s eight-race card, returned to dominate yesterday’s programme with a three-timer, earlier winning astride MAKE UP ARTIST and MAMACITA in the second and fourth races, respectively.
Booting home seven winners in back-to-back meets, taking his tally to 35, Thomas pulled three wins clear of Dane Nelson, with whom he tied as champion jockey last season.
Nelson’s lone win was aboard SAN SIRO in the opening event.
Racing continues on Friday.
