Signs with David Beckham’s Inter Miami

After a sudden end to life in Egypt, national defender Damion Lowe says that he will make his professional return to the United States and Major League Soccer (MLS) with Inter Miami.
The David Beckham-owned club made the signing official yesterday, securing the services of the 28-year-old on a two-year deal that runs until 2023 with an option for 2024. It will be the first time Lowe will be in America’s top-tier league since he was drafted by the Seattle Sounders in 2014.
For Lowe, he says that his experience over the years has made him capable of improving the fortunes of a Miami franchise that failed to make the playoffs last season.
“I’ve done well over the years with Concacaf and playing in Europe and Africa. I believe that I can help the Miami franchise be successful and, hopefully, win a lot of games,” Lowe said.
Lowe will have a familiar face in the Inter Miami front office in Chief Soccer Officer Chris Henderson, who was the technical director of the Seattle Sounders during Lowe’s time at the club. Lowe was loaned out during his two years with the Sounders and did not make any MLS appearances with the club. Henderson said that he will be an important piece in improving a defence that conceded 53 goals last season.
“I’ve known Damion for a long time, and I’m sure he’ll welcome this challenge to break into MLS while helping us achieve our objectives,” Henderson told the club website. “We’re looking forward to continuing to solidify our backline with this signing.”
Lowe left his Egyptian club Al Ittihad Alexandria after more than a year by mutual consent recently amid reports that Lowe missed training often this season and was at odds with head coach Hossam Hassan, who demanded his release. However, Lowe’s management team said last Wednesday that the reports surrounding him are false, and he (Lowe) was appreciative of his time with the club and the fans.
“His agent made a request for mutual termination of the contract, which was honoured by the club. Damion is thankful for his time spent with Al Ittihad and the way the club and fans accepted him. He wishes them all the best,” the player’s management team said in a release.
He has made over 40 appearances with the Reggae Boyz and is a key player in Jamaica’s 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Lowe is expected to report to pre-season training today to begin preparations for the 2022 season, which begins in February.
