Secret Identity slams rivals in HoSang feature
SECRET IDENTITY outsped the United States-bred pair, GO DEH GIRL and ONE DON, going all the way in yesterday’s George HoSang Trophy for overnight-allowance runners, notching back-to-back wins at five and a half furlongs.
Breaking sharply with claiming jockey Matthew Bennett, the Bern Identity-Pomeroy’s Secret four-year-old filly came around quickly from post-position eight to chase GENERATIONAL and PEKING CRUZ off the lead.
Running light with 112lb, SECRET IDENTITY straightened in command and stayed on strongly in the straight, clocking 1:06.1, finishing a length and a quarter clear of GO DEH GIRL, while ONE DON closed from off the pace to secure third.
Considering the quality of her previous victory, clocking 1:06.2 when humbling speedy importee JORDON REIGN’S, SECRET IDENTITY winning at odds of 6-5 was a king’s ransom to close the 10-race card for punters earlier rocked by 22-1 upsetter, MAGICAL MOOD, in the fifth event.
Female claiming jockey, Samantha Fletcher, shared the day’s riding honours with Dane Dawkins, going gate-to-wire in two victories, MAGICAL MOOD and 4-1 shot JON P in the eighth.
Dawkins won the weekend battle for the lead in the jockeys’ standings after Robert Halledeen, who had moved to nine winners after landing Saturday’s opening event with LET HIM FLY, went winless on yesterday’s programme.
Dawkins moved to 10 wins, opening his account aboard MISTER A in the fourth before using NOMOREDEALS to outfiinish female claiming rider, Abigail Able, aboard hot 2-5 favourite, SUNSET SILHOUTTE in the fourth.
Racing continues with another Saturday-Sunday meet at the weekend.
