Carifta Trials | Holmwood's Peart takes Under-17 1500m

Andrene Peart of Holmwood Technical High dominated her rivals to win the Under-17 girls 1500 metres final on the opening day of the Carifta Trials at the National Stadium on Friday.

Peart clocked four minutes 53.10 seconds to win the event ahead of St Jago High's Kededra Coombs (4:54.30) and Ashara Frater of Vere Technical (4:57.71).

Maggotty High's Yoshane Bowen won the Under-17 1500m boys final in 4: 09.21 in front of Tyrone Lawson of Jamaica College (4:11.25) and Gage Buggam of St Elizabeth Technical (4:14.90).

In the girls' Under-20 1500m, victory went to Jody-Ann Mitchell of Holmwood in 4:37.18 ahead of Edwin Allen’s Rickeisha Simms (4.37.50) and Shone Walters of St Mary High (4.37.51).

Kaylia Kelly from Vere sped to 53.81 seconds to lead all qualifiers to the final of the Under-20 girls 400m.

Oneika McAnnuff of Hydel HIgh has the second fastest time entering Saturday's final after winning her heat in 54.23. The other qualifiers were Excelsior High's Dejona Simpson (55.10), Shana Kaye Anderson (unattached, 54.30), Daena Dyer of Hydel High (54.46), Oneika Brissett of William Knibb High (55.82) Torriann Noad of Holmwood (54.33) and Asheika Smith of Manchester (55.71).

Kingston College's Shaemar Uter clocked a respectable 46.99 seconds to win his Under-20 400m heat. He is the fastest qualifier going into Saturday's final.

Delano Kennedy of Edwin Allen High (47.63), Excelsior High's Malachi Johnson (48.20), Shemar Palmer, Manchester High (47.56), Derrick Grant of Ferncourt High (48.50), Jasauna Dennis of Elizabeth (48.65), Mark-Anthony Daley of Herbert Morrison (48.84) and St Elizabeth Technical's Chevoney Reid were the other qualifiers for the final.
