Carifta Trials | Hydel's Burrell tops U-17 shot put
Natassia Burrell of Hydel High captured the Under-17 girls shot put with throw of 13.84 metres on Friday's opening day of the 2022 Carifta Trials at the National Stadium.
St Jago High’s Kimeka Smith took second in the event with a throw of 12.02m while Dionjah Shaw of Edwin Allen High placed third with 11.45m.
Abigail Campbell, running unattached, leads qualifiers for Saturday's final of the Under-17 girls 400m. She won her heat in 54.52 seconds.
The other leading qualifiers for the final are Vere Technical's Shevaughn Walker (56.09) and Ethrona Williams, 56.83.
Also in the final are Quana Walker of St Jago High (56.83), St Catherine High's Aaliyaha Morgan (57.17), Aliyah Grant of Holmwood Technical (57.49), Meckeda Legister of The Queen’s School (58.09) and Aaliyah Mullings of Hydel (58.14).
Tajh-Marques White (49.12) and Marchino Rose (49.55), both of Kingston College, are the leading qualifiers for the Under-17 boys 400m final.
Also set to run in Saturday's final are Antonio Powell of Edwin Allen High (50.30), Tremaine Hamilton, Clarendon College (49.89), Requel Reid, Calabar High (50.04), Dushaun Grant, KC (50.84), Zachary Wallace, Maggotty (50.10) and Damario Crooks of St Jago (52.14).
