Champs 22 | Holmwood's Mitchell powers home in Class One 1500m

Holmwood Technical's Jody-Ann Mitchell produced a brilliant final 100 metres burst of speed run to upset the field and capture the Class One girls 1500m at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Championships at the National Stadium on Wednesday.

Mitchell won the event in four minutes 36.39 seconds ahead of St Mary High's Shone Walters in 4:37.05 while third went to favourite Jessica McLean of Edwin Allen High in 4:37.06.

Rickeisha Simms of Edwin Allen won the Class Two 1500m final in 4:41.85. Misha-Jade Samuels of St Jago was second in 4:47.45 while third went to Cindy Rose from Holmwood in 4:47.86.

Edwin Allen’s Kora Barnett secured the victory for her school in the Class Three 1500m final in a time of 4:44.30. Holmwood’s pair of Andrene Peart, 4:45.63, and Jovi Rose of Holmwood 4:50.09 finished second and third respectively.
