Surrey Kings maintain perfect start
THE SURREY Kings made it three straight from as many games following a 30-run win over the winless Surrey Risers in their Dream XI Jamaica T10 encounter at Sabina Park yesterday.
Asked to take the first strike, the Kings posted a formidable total of 139 for four in their allotted 10 overs on the back of Jeavor Royal’s 46 from 18 balls, inclusive of four fours and three sixes.
Hard-hitting opener Kennar Lewis ensured that the Kings got a good start, as he and captain Jermaine Blackwood added 47 for the opening wicket.
Lewis went on to get 41 from 18 balls with one four and five sixes, while Blackwood chipped in with 28 from 11 balls.
Warren Campbell was the most economical bowler for the Risers with one for 14 from his two overs. When they batted, they could only get to 109 for two, despite a battling 58 from 37 balls from Sadique Henry and an unbeaten 40 from Delbert Gayle.
The pair put on an unbeaten 99 runs for the third wicket after they lost openers Chadwick Walton and Nicholas Lewin for nought and one, respectively.
Henry hit six fours and four sixes in his knock while Gayle hit four fours and three sixes.
Fast bowler Andre Dennis picked up the two wickets to fall.
In the day’s other encounter, the Middlesex Titans moved to third place in the standings on six points, following an 18-run win under the Duckworth Lewis Method over the Middlesex United Stars.
Sent in to bat, the Titans could only manage 81 for eight in their 10 overs, with Sherdon Allen’s 36 from 20 balls leading the way. Allen struck four fours and two sixes. Seamer Andel Gordon bagged three wickets for 10 runs from his two overs.
The United Stars reached 41 for seven after seven overs when rain ended play with off-spinner Chevonie Grant bagging a remarkable four wickets for nine runs in his two overs.
The competition continues today with another doubleheader at Sabina Park.
The Surrey Risers will face the Surrey Royals after which the Surrey Kings will take on the Cornwall Warriors.
