RENOWNED speedster JORDON REIGN’S won yesterday’s Information and Communication Technology Department Cup in unlikely fashion, storming from off the pace to collar fellow American LURE OF LUCY at the wire, closing a four-timer for title-chasing Dane Dawkins in the six-and-half furlong event.

Held way off the pace in eighth passing the half-mile marker while stablemate SHE’S A WONDER, the 4-5 favourite, ripped torrid splits with LURE OF LUCY, JORDON REIGN’S, reporting off a two-and-a-half month lay-up, appeared hopelessly outsped until improving into fifth at the top of the straight.

While LURE OF LUCY was busy getting rid of SHE’S A WONDER and rail-running SECRET IDENTITY a furlong and a half out, JORDON REIGN’S gathered steam in mid-track to go fourth and exploded inside the last half-furlong with a rapid turn of foot.

LURE OF LUCY ran a brave race, turning back SHE’S A WONDER in splits of 22.3, 45.2 and 1:11.3 but the effort took toll close home, going down by a half-length to the fast-finishing gelding, who was venturing beyond five and a half furlongs for the first time in six starts.

DAWKINS DOMINANCE

Dawkins dominated the second half of the 11-race card, landing four of the last five events, starting with FLIGHT TIME in the seventh before closing the programme with a hat-trick - D HEAD CORNERSTONE, PRINCE MARSHALL and JORDON REIGN’S.

Dawkins’ four-timer pushed him one ahead of champion jockey Anthony Thomas, 44-43, in their see-saw battle atop the standings.

Thomas started the day leading by two winners, drawing first blood with DALLAS in the third before the Dawkins show got under way in the seventh.

Racing continues this afternoon with a 10-race card.
