MVP Track Club coach Stephen Francis (left) talks about the progression of World Championship silver medallist Shericka Jackson.

Coach Stephen Francis says that Shericka Jackson's improved knowledge of the 100m has her poised for a landmark 2023 season in the event.

Jackson took silver in the women's 100m final last night in a personal best time of 10.73 seconds, as part of a Jamaican sweep led by Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce who won the title in a championship record of 10.67. Double Olympic Sprint Champion Elaine Thompson-Herah was third in 10.81

Francis said that Jackson is starting to realise the specifics of the 100m and believes that next year could be Jackson's year in the event.

"It is a work in progress. But she did some things which suggest to me that she is finally beginning to understand the 100m and her future is extremely bright," Francis told The Gleaner.

"I suspect that she will run faster before the season ends and if everything goes ok next year, she will have a super season in the 100m."

While he wouldnt say whether a super season would include getting to the sub 10.70 mark, he said that she has a great chance to get faster once she remains injury-free.

"If you use yesterday as a reference there will be significant improvement if she stays healthy and not make any mistakes like others in the past," Francis said.

Jackson will start her 200m campaign tonight. She currently has the fastest time in the world this year, clocking 21.55 seconds at the JAAA National Senior and Junior Championships last month.
