‘Criminal mistakes’ cost Waterhouse – Gayle

WATERHOUSE FC’S head coach, Marcel Gayle, says his team made some “criminal” mistakes during their 6-0 defeat by Pacific FC in a Concacaf League preliminary round second-leg tie in Langford, Canada, on Tuesday night, and they paid the price.
The home team ran riot with a hat-trick from Alejandro Diaz (12th, 53rd, and 73rd minutes), a brace from Josh Heard (56th and 61st), and a goal from Marco Bustos (41st), and Gayle thought they made too many errors on the night.
“At this level you cannot make criminal mistakes, and we paid for that today. We made many mistakes at the back, and it cost us the game. Also inexperience at one point set in,” he said.
The veteran coach insisted that had his team been in competition, they could have put in a much better performance.
“We know we were on the road and we had some young players who went out and expressed themselves, but unfortunately, we were the losing side.
“This is the back end of our season, and it would have been a bit more competitive if we were in competition.
“Pacific are a good team they are second in their league on 32 points, the same as leaders Forge. So we will take our lessons from this and come again for next year,” he commented.
Waterhouse were under the gun from the 12th minute when Gianni dos Santos bamboozled David Edwards before setting up Diaz for the opener.
Four minutes before half-time, Heard set up Bustos to make it 2-0 at the break.
Diaz made it 3-0 eight minutes into the second half before two goals from Heard put the game out of reach at 5-0.
Diaz then sealed the win with a cheeky back-heel late in the half.
Pacific move on to the round of 16, where they will play Herediano of Costa Rica.
