Brinks lands ‘Fanna’ Griffiths Classic
REYAN LEWIS kept his cool aboard BRINKS, ignoring GREAT TRICK’s overtures on the lead, before making a decisive bid a half-mile out to take charge of yesterday’s Winston ‘Fanna’ Griffiths Classic at seven furlongs.
Coasting into the lane clear of a ridden PERFECT BREW, Jamaica Derby runner-up BRINKS stayed on strongly to repel a last-furlong charge from MORIMOTO, winning by three and a half lengths in 2:00.3 as the 1-5 favourite.
Lewis sealed a quick double with a rousing finish aboard 7-1 chance EL PROFESSOR at five furlongs round in the A King Is Born, motoring from fourth off the home turn to rush past leaders CAPTUREMYSHIP and EMPEROROFTHECATS a furlong out.
EL PROFESSOR handed trainer Patrick Lynch a two-timer on the 10-race card after his earlier victory with 4-1 shot JOYFUL at five and a half furlongs in the fifth event.
JOYFUL pushed Dane Dawkins five clear of champion Anthony Thomas at the top of the standings, keeping the derby-winning rider on track as he bids for his first jockeys’ title.
Racing continues at the weekend, with the resumption of Saturday-Sunday meets.
