Humble Lion’s Shamari Dallas (left) battles for the ball with Dunbeholden’s Shakeen Powell during yesterday’s Jamaica Premier League match at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex. The game ended in a 0-0 draw.

The coaches of both Dunbeholden and Humble Lion highlighted the positives after a 0-0 draw in their opening Jamaica Premier League (JPL) match at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex yesterday.

Andrew Price, the Humble Lion coach, thought his team controlled the game but said that they could have taken all three points if they were better in front of goal.

"We could have been more clinical in front of goal. We got some opportunities, especially late in the game, some one on ones with the goalkeeper that we should have converted.

"But they put in a good shift, and to get a clean sheet is a plus. It is a lost opportunity, and we are disappointed, but we are going to keep positive and work on our finishing," he said. "We looked very much the part today, we just werent clinical."

In a cagey first half, Dundeholden struggled to build their attacks while Humble Lion were slow to get into their rhythm.

The first real chance fell to Humble Lion's Andre Clennon, who headed over from 12 yards.

The big striker then had another great chance moments later, which he volleyed wide of the post.

Dunbeholden's best chance of the half to fell to DeAndre Thomas, but he chose to control when a volley would have been the better option.

After the break, Humble Lion controlled the early minutes, but the two best opportunities fell to Dundeholden through Thomas, who was denied by goalkeeper Damion Hyatt on both occasions.

As both teams battled under torrential rain in the second half, Humble Lion appeared more comfortable with the wet conditions and created a number of openings of which they failed to take advantage. The best chance went to Kemar Mullings in the final minute, but he could not beat Hyatt, with the goalkeeper at his mercy.

Dunbeholden's coach, Jermaine Brown, said the performance was gutsy, but they will be much better come the next game.

"It was a tough one, a gutsy one. We created a few opportunities, but it's a long season, and we don't want to single players out now.

"To get a point at the start of the season is a good one, but we need better movement up top.

"We were static, and that caused some turnovers, but once we get players moving off the ball a little more, we will be okay.

"Also, we have four players (including star forward Peter McGregor) out who should be back next week. They will add to the offence, and we will be a better team the next time you see us," he stated confidently.
