All-daCosta/All-Manning bragging rights head to rural Jamaica
Bragging rights after the return of the All-Manning/All-daCosta Cup schoolboy fooball season ender after its many-year absence went to the rural schools after the All-daCosta Cup team won 3-2 on penalties at the National Stadium this evening.
The game, which showcased the best of the past schoolboy football season, ended 2-2 after regulation time in front of an engaged crowd at the National Stadium.
The All-Manning team, representing the best corporate area and St Catherine has to offer, opened the scoring in the 21st minute through Jamaica College's Kevaughn Wilson. The son of former national player, Kevin ‘Pele’ Wilson, finished well from close range after a brilliant cut back by Mona's Zhaine Pinnock. The All-daCosta team restored parity in the 31st minute thanks to man-of-the-match, Clarendon College's Malachi Douglas, who rounded goalkeeper Akeem Bernard before coolly slotting home.
Dujuan Richards restored the lead in the 39th minute with a brilliant solo effort for the All-Manning outfit to take a 2-1 lead into half time.
While Riachards did well to round the centre halves in front of him, before passing the ball into the net as All-daCosta goalkeeper, Romeo Daniels, got ready to close his angles, there was an error that gifted him possession.
There was another instance of questionable defending, but this time from the All-Manning unit, which allowed Marques Reid to level the score at 2-2 in the 51st minute.
The All-Mannings were in the ascendency throughout the second half but lacked that killer punch to put the game away.
During the shootout, after both teams converted in the first round, St Andrew Technical High School’s Nickoy Gayle missed his second-round effort and the All-daCostas took a 3-1 lead. That lead was cut to 3-2 by St Catherine's Nickyle Ellis. Both teams missed their last two penalties with Mona goalkeeper, Akeem Bernard, denying Clarendon College's Devonti Hodges. However, STATHS’s Andre Salmon could not force sudden death after his penalty was brilliantly saved by Mowey Morgan.
Earlier, the standout players of the season were honored with Richards winning Manning and Champions Cup MVP awards as well as the golden boot for both competitions. Douglas won the daCosta Cup MVP and Keheim Dixon was named MVP of the Olivier Shield.
