King’s century propels Kingston to massive total

JAMAICA AND West Indies batsman Brandon King showed his class by scoring a brilliant century for Kingston Cricket Club on the opening day of the third round two-day Jamaica Cricket Association Senior Cup clash against Melbourne Cricket Club at Sabina Park yesterday.

King hit 138 from 84 balls to lead the Tigers to a formidable 373 all out, with national player Patrick Harty chipping in with a gritty 77 from as many balls. James McDonald fell four runs short of a half-century, as seamer Khari Campbell picked up four wickets for 59 runs, with discarded West Indies pacer Oshane Thomas snaring two wickets for 52 runs.

Melbourne, in reply, will resume today’s second day on 32 without loss with national all-rounder Abhijai Mansingh unbeaten on 16 and national captain Paul Palmer, not out on 14.

Meanwhile, St Catherine CC chalked up back-to-back victories as they brushed aside Boys’ Town on day one, securing an inning and 48-run win at Collie Smith Drive.

National spinners Peat Salmon, Jeavor Royal and Howard Palmer bagged three wickets apiece to first dismiss Boys’ Town for just 76 runs in 18.4 overs. Salmon then returned with the bat to stroke 102 from 56 balls to help propel The Saints to 260 for five, with Royal also getting some handy runs following his 80 from 53 balls. Oraine Williams fell one run shy of a half-century as Patrick Beckford took three wickets.

With a lead of 184 runs, Royal and Salmon were at it again in Boys’ Town’s second innings, the pair again grabbing three wickets apiece to go with Palmer’s two, dismissing Boys’ Town for 136, despite 49 from Kimani Morgan.

At Up Park Camp, University of the West Indies, deciding to take the first strike, posted 206 all out against the Jamaica Defence Force, who closed day one on 101 for three.

Stephen Pink was the top scorer for the students, with 59 against four wickets for 59 runs for national Pacer Gordon Bryan. Deethmar Anderson has so far hit an unbeaten 60 for the army men in their reply.

Over at the Manley Horne Park, hosts St Elizabeth posted 280 all out, batting first against Westmoreland.

MINDLEY TOP SCORE 70

National player Marquino Mindley top scored with 70, while Andre McCarthy made 61 against four wickets for 87 runs from Javid Simpson.

Westmoreland will resume on 132 for six with Malique Williams getting 46 against two wickets for Romaine Nembhard.

In another game, St Mary reached 47 for two, replying to St Ann’s 292 all out. Damani Sewell top scored for St Ann with 127 and Gifton Wray gathered 57.

Clarendon will resume on 110 for five, replying to 184 all out posted by St Catherine Cricket Association. Wayne Davis will resume on 51 after Romone Francis bagged five wickets for St Catherine CA. Charlton Brooks also secured a five-wicket haul in the match so far, bowling for Clarendon.

Chevon Simpson scored a century for Police, his 140 propelling the lawmen to 349 all out against Lucas, who reached 104 without loss in reply, with Nicholas Lewin on 56 and Daniel Beckford on 47.

Trelawny closed on 198 for four replying to Hanover’s first innings score of 151 all out. Osburn Palmer remarkably took eight wickets for 42 runs for Trelawny while Omar Williams scored 81 runs in their reply.
