Alphansus Davis girls impress in 1500m

HEAD COACH of Alphansus Davis High’s girls, Megan Wilson Copeland, was on cloud nine on Wednesday’s second day of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships (Champs) inside the National Stadium, after seeing three of her charges produce massive performances in the Class Three and Class One 1500 metres finals.

In the first track final on Wednesday Alikay Reynolds and Tabbarel Williams picked up 15 solid points after a first and third finish in the Class Three 1500m final. Both clocked personal best times.

Edwin Allen High’s Kevongaye Fowler, who placed fifth, was unbeaten in the event coming into Champs, and she was the overwhelming favourite to go all the way, but good tactical running from both Alphansus Davis girls ensured a good result for their school. Reynolds captured the event in four minutes 46.36 seconds and Williams was third in 4:49.07. Kededra Coombs of St Jago High was third in 4:49.07.

Several minutes later, the consistent Class One girl Kishay Rowe put the icing on the cake for her team by finishing second in 4:39.29 behind record-breaker and winner Jodyann Mitchell of Holmwood Technical, who won in 4:29.42.

“Great job by the three young ladies. Our girls have been making big strides in the middle distance events over the years. All three young ladies produced personal best times and made it to the podium, and I am extremely proud of their achievements, and congrats to them and the school,” said Wilson Copeland.

At the end of Wednesday’s second day of competition, Alphansus Davis had picked up 22 points and were in third position, and Wilson Copeland is very pleased.

“Last year, the team ended with 23 points and 14th place overall, and we are on target to better that this time around, and I am very pleased,” she said.
