RICARDO ‘BIG 12’ Brown will have a new opponent for his fight on Saturday night at the Pickering Casino Resort in Canada, on a card being promoted by United Boxing Promotions.

Jhan Carlo Delgado, the man he was slated to meet in an eight-round contest on the six-fight card, was said to be unable to get a visa to enter Canada, and in the circumstances, a new opponent had to be found for Brown.

The new opponent is a more experienced boxer, Jesus Angel Nerio from Mexico, who has a record of 15 wins, 10 losses, and a draw. He has been a professional since December 15, 2006.

Brown, who has only been boxing as a professional since February 26 last year, has a 6-0 record with all the victories coming inside the distance.

Despite the difference in experience, Brown said he was not bothered.

“I am fit and ready, and I will do whatever is necessary to come away with another victory. I am not bothered by the fact that he has been boxing as a pro for a long time,” said Brown.

Promoter Tyler Buxton has conceded that it is difficult to find opponents for Brown as some boxers just do not want to fight him, but he is confident that the heavyweight will be able to handle himself well despite the fact that Nerio is a more experienced fighter.

A look at Nerio’s record shows that he has had some good fights, won some, and lost some. He has not, however, fought since October 2021, and that was a title fight for the World Boxing Council Silver heavyweight title against Brandon Moore. He was knocked out in that fight. It looks, therefore, that it will be his experience against Brown’s punching power, and that is an interesting equation.

Another Jamaican boxer, Kemahl Russell, will be fighting on the card. That will be a super-middleweight contest over eight rounds against Marcos Jesus Cornejo. He broke camp yesterday and told The Gleaner that it had gone well and that he was looking forward to getting back into the ring after a five-year break.
