Ja's women suffer second defeat in CAC hockey

JAMAICA’S female hockey team suffered their second defeat in as many games following a 6-0 thumping by Cuba yesterday at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games. The Jamaicans who trailed 2-0 at half-time went downhill in the second half, conceding four goals as Yunia Milanes registered a hat-trick and the trio of Cheila Darias, Jennifer Martinez and Yuraima Vera all scored a goal each throughout the encounter.

The latest defeat comes on the heels of a 4-0 defeat in their opening fixture against Trinidad and Tobago. The Nicole Bradshaw-coached team will play their final fixture of the campaign tomorrow (9 a.m. Jamaica time) against Mexico.

Team Jamaica has so far collected three medals, inclusive of two silver and a bronze at the Games.

Mexico lead the medal table with a total of 144 medals, inclusive of 57 gold, 49 silver and 38 bronze, followed by Colombia with 88 medals, 40 gold, 24 silver and 24 bronze, with Cuba rounding off the top three with 79 medals – 27 gold, 26 silver and 26 bronze. Trinidad and Tobago in 11th place leads the English-speaking Caribbean countries with seven medals – two gold, two silver and three bronze.
