The Surrey Kings remain the only unbeaten team in this season’s Dream XI-sponsored Jamaica T10 competition following a two-wicket win over the defending champions Surrey Royals in the opening encounter of round six of the competition at Sabina Park yesterday.

All-rounder Jeavor Royal was the star for the Kings. He first took two wickets to restrict the Royals to 104 for five then hit 22 to guide the Kings to 105 for eight in exactly 10 overs to pull off the narrow victory and go top of the standings in the six-team competition.

For Royal, his all-round performance has made him proud that his team can remain unbeaten and on course for ultimately winning the championship.

VICTORIOUS ENDING

“I think the boys played well today as we back our skills and we stuck to our team plans and came out victorious. I was a bit nervous after bringing it down to the wire but we held our composure and I hope we can keep that momentum and push for the title this year,” Royal said.

West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell also played his part in the win, as he took two wickets for 14 runs in his two overs in restricting the Royals who got a top score of 44 not out from number six batsman Chevon Simpson.

Simpson faced 20 balls and hit four fours and four sixes while national batsman Carlos Brown chipped in with 17 from 13 balls.

In reply, Antwin Stephens gave the Kings a good start as he slammed 23 from 10 balls with four fours and a six.

Russell managed only seven runs but Royal got things going again with 22 from 14 balls with one four and two sixes to set up the victory which was finished off by wicketkeeper Kimani Wilson who made an unbeaten nine and Mickayle Riley who was not out on three.

Left-arm seamer Khari Campbell took three wickets for 12 runs while off-spinner Peat Salmon bagged two wickets for 26 runs.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Middlesex United Stars chalked up their second win of the campaign following an eight-wicket victory over the Cornwall Warriors.

The Warriors first posted 95 for seven with Andre McCarty top scoring with 29 from 14 balls and captain Damion Ebanks getting 19.

Amoi Campbell and Damani Sewell took two wickets each for the United Stars, who eased to victory at 98 for two in seven overs with Suwayne Wilson leading the way with 32 not out from 18 balls and 21 not out from Sushane Anderson.
