Eight-man Arnett Gardens turned back rivals Waterhouse 1-0 in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) on Thursday, courtesy of Warner Brown’s first-half strike at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

In a dramatic second half, referee Odette Hamilton issued marching orders to three Arnett players.

Brown had fired Arnett into the lead in the 10th minute but they had to finish the game with just eight players after Gerald Neil in the 58th minute, and Damone Shepherd and Shane Watson in added time were all shown red cards.

Nevertheless, the Xavier Gilbert-coached team held on to claim their third win of the season and climb to second in the standings on 11 points, four adrift of leaders Mount Pleasant.

Waterhouse slipped from second to fourth in the table with 10 points.

In the first match of the doubleheader, newcomers Treasure Beach registered their second win of the campaign, beating Molynes 2-1 to jump two places up to eighth position.

Jevaughn Brown put Molynes ahead with a 13th-minute strike but Jamaro Hall’s penalty tied the game four minutes after and Romario Smith’s strike in the 26th minute sealed the win for the St Elizabeth-based Treasure Beach side.

Cavalier and Humble Lion also registered their second wins of the season with victories over Vere and Montego Bay United, respectively.

Cavalier defeated Vere 3-1 through an own goal from Alwin Strachan after 15 minutes plus one each from Shaniel Thomas (29th) and Jalmaro Calvin (71st). Kemar Beckford scored for Vere in the 80th minute.

Cavalier moved up one place to fifth on eight points, the same as Humble Lion who outscored Montego Bay 3-2 in their match at Effortville.

Javon Smith fired Humble Lion into a 13th-minute lead but Shavon McDonald netted twice in 15 minutes to put Montego Bay 2-1 up. Smith’s second on 33rd minute, however, made it 2-2 at the break.

Roshane Sharpe then scored three minutes from the end to give Humble Lion all three points.

Meanwhile, at Stadium East, defending champions Mount Pleasant clipped high flying Tivoli Gardens 1-0 to strengthen their grip atop the standings.

Kimoni Bailey continued his scintillating form, scoring the only goal of the game in the 44th minute for his fourth of the season.
