It was an impressive day on the field for Jamaican men's discus throw as Traves Smikle, Roje Stona and Ralford Mullings all threw beyond the 65-metre mark to book their spots in the finals set for Wednesday.

National champion Smikle was the best of the Jamaican contingent as he placed fifth overall in qualifying with his mark of 65.91 metres in the second round.

Stona, competing in Group B, recovered from a first round foul to launch an impressive 65.32 to head into Wednesday's final.

Mullings followed his compatriots with a single throw on the board after fouling two of his three attempts. Fortunately, his first round effort of 65.18 was enough to advance to the final.
