Despite a spirited run out of lane eight in his semi-final of the men's 400 metres, Jevaughn Powell has missed out on the final as his time of 44.91 seconds was just short of the required time of 44.43s needed to advance as a non-automatic qualifier.

Powell needed to place within the top two of his race to advance as an automatic qualifier or post a time faster than 44.43s to enter as one of the next two fastest competitors.

However, Powell finished fourth behind a blistering run from British athlete Matthew Hudson-Smith who dominated from start to finish in 44.07s.

His placement means Jamaica will not be represented in the men's 400-metre final.
