It was a warrior-like performance for teenage sensation Jaydon Hibbert as he battled the field and injury to place fourth in the men's triple jump final with a second-round effort of 17.61 metres.

Hibbert was forced out of the competition through injury as he decided to skip his sixth and final attempt after fouling his fourth and fifth attempts.

Hibbert's participation was in doubt amid injury concerns throughout the Olympics.

On Wednesday, he revealed he was only medically cleared to compete the morning of the qualification rounds.

Spain's Jordan Diaz Fortun won gold, Pedro Pichardo of Portugal took silver and Andy Diaz Hernandez of Italy got bronze.
