Uphill climb for Reggae Boyz after Office loss
Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz have a mountain to climb after they lost the first leg of their Concacaf Nations League quarter-final to the United States earlier tonight at the National Stadium.
The Reggae Boyz were done in by a fifth-minute goal from Ricardo Papi and despite earning a penalty in the 14th minute, failed to recover.
Demarai Gray watched his spot kick saved by US custodian Matt Turner, but the Reggae Boyz never dropped their heads and created a number of chances, despite having far less possession than their Concacaf neighbours.
Tempers flared as time began run out on the Reggae Boyz with Leon Bailey earning a yellow card for a scuffle with the US’ Antonee Robinson. Robinson was also yellow carded.
A couple of clumsy challenges spelt disaster for Mason Holgate, who was sent to the showers for the second of those in the 86th.
Outside of Holgate, Jamaica picked up four other yellow cards, all in the second half.
The Jamaicans will now turn their attention to the reverse fixture at City Park in the United States on Monday.
