Sound Ruption at Jarrett Park

Several operators of high-profile car sound systems are expected to battle for supremacy at today's staging of Sound Ruption 5 set for Jarrett Park, Montego Bay. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the show is slated to begin at 7 p.m.

"Patrons should come expecting good quality music, lots of crea-tivity and excitement," promoter Kingsley Scott told Automotives.

Scott said today's event will see contestants facing off in three categories.

"The categories are 'Unlimited', '45' and 'Dub fi Dub'," he said.

The promoter explained that the vehicles expected to participate in the 'Unlimited' category are those which are used for carrying out "everyday chores".

"No speakers are allowed on the roof of any of the cars. They must have the original head unit ... but a laptop or iPhone is permitted, but nothing to enhance the power," Scott said.

He said the '45' section will see contestants facing off with fit-for-airplay music, while 'Dub fi Dub'will see contestants trading dub plates.

Defending champion Ripton 'Naseve' Wedderburn, however, is confident that he will retain the crown.

"They can't beat me ... Mi full a surprises ... and mi well prepared," he said.

The Portmore-based car sound system operator, who drives a 1997 Blue Toyota Surf, said his vehicle is outfitted with four square Solo-Baric kickers, two 8", 10" and 12" - 18 sound midrange, three tweeters and three amplifiers.

"I am always raising my standard ... I have news for anyone who comes up against me," he said, while refusing to disclose the 'ammunition' he plans to take to the 'clash of the sound systems'.

Promoter Kingsley Scott said the winners of today's event will go on to compete in the November clash.

"Everyone will get a chance this year to prove themselves," he said.
