Road closure for King Street in Montego Bay
MONTEGO BAY, St James:
The National Works Agency (NWA) says a section of the King Street to Green Pond roadway in Montego Bay, St James, will be closed for five days, starting today, to facilitate the removal of worn asphalt.
"This process, which is referred to as milling, is being done as part of rehabilitative works on the corridor through the multibillion-dollar Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme (JDIP)," Stephen Shaw, NWA's communication and customer services manager, explained in a release yesterday.
The five-kilometre roadway is being rehabilitated at a cost of more than $150 million.
The roadway will be closed between the intersection of King and Union streets and the King Street Bridge. The closure will last for six hours each day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Motorists travelling from the direction of Green Pond towards downtown Montego Bay have been directed tu use the alternative route from Brandon Hill to Union Street. The reverse obtains for persons leaving downtown Montego Bay, and those wishing to go beyond 141/2 Upper King Street.
