  •  ATL tops in Honda service

ATL Motors, a division of ATL Automotive and distributors of Honda automobiles, has earned Honda America's coveted Best in Customer Service award for the Caribbean region for 2011-12.

The award, presented to David Rosen, president of ATL Automotive Ltd, and Chris DaCosta, group general manager, sales and marketing, at the annual Honda America Dealer Conference in Los Angeles, California, recently marks the fourth year ATL Motors is driving away with the trophy, edging out more than 23 dealers/distributors within the region.

The Best in Customer Service win caps off another record-setting year for the Jamaican car dealer, having out-paced regional counterparts in market pene-tration for the Honda brand. "While the final figures are not yet in for 2011, ATL Motors is once again poised to achieve the highest market penetration for the Latin America/Caribbean region for Honda America," DaCosta shared. This would make the second consecutive year ATL Motors achieved the highest market penetration, having capped 2010 with 12.7 per cent market share in its segment.

  • Phony checkpoint OK

NEW ORLEANS (AP):

A federal appeals court has ruled that DeSoto Parish sheriff's deputies didn't illegally use a phony checkpoint to catch people driving under the influence of drugs.

In April 2008, deputies placed a sign on a rural road that warned motorists a narcotics checkpoint was ahead, but the checkpoint didn't exist. Instead, deputies stopped drivers for traffic violations as they turned onto a gravel road just past the sign.

A driver who was pulled over and issued a citation for failing to use a turn signal sued Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle, claiming deputies illegally stopped and searched her car.

Last Thursday, however, a three-judge panel from the 5th United States Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the ruse checkpoint was constitutional and upheld a judge's dismissal of the driver's claims.
