For South Korean car maker Hyundai, 2011 was a year of increased success in growth, sales, visibility, and recognition by institutions within the automotive industry which rank vehicle safety, design and performance.
Hyundai climbed four spots to 61 in Interbrand’s ‘2011 Best Global Brands’ ranking, released on October 4, 2011. This move earned the company the title of ‘Fastest Growing Brand’ for the second consecutive year. Interbrand calculated Hyundai’s brand value at US$6 billion, a 19.3 per cent increase over 2010.

The company continued to increase exports to the Central and South American region, surpassing 2 million units in October 2011.

Hyundai was the best-selling brand in six African nations – Angola, Egypt, Libya, Mozambique, Seychelles, and Sudan. More than 127,000 units were sold across the African continent from January – October 2011, a new sales record.

Auto-diagnostic and repair website www.carMD.com released a report in 2011 which ranked cars according to which brands had the fewest and least expensive repairs, Hyundai ranking second. CarMD collected repair data from its network of 3,000 mechanics.

Three Hyundai models – the Accent, Elantra and Veloster – have been ranked best in the 2012 Canadian ‘Car of the Year’ list in their respective categories. The Automobile Journalists of Canada picks the 11 best vehicles in each category based on design, performance and safety features.

Evaluation period

The all-new Hyundai i40 Wagon beat the new Audi A6, Mercedes Benz B class, BMW 1series, and the Mazda CX-5 to win the Golden Award at the 2011 EuroCarBody Conference, held in Germany. The winner is decided after evaluation over a three-day period by the EuroCarBody Board, as well as the entire international expert audience of 500 conference delegates.
The Hyundai i40 Wagon also copped a five-star safety rating from the Euro NCAP (National Car Assessment Programme).
The Hyundai Veloster was also awarded the five-star safety rating by the Euro NCAP, becoming the sixth consecutive Hyundai model to achieve the maximum five-star score in the Euro NCAP following the i40 Wagon.
