WESTERN BUREAU:The Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC) Awards Ceremony, hosted at the Wexford Court Hotel, Montego Bay, St James, on Saturday, January 14, saw 22 year-old Kyle Gregg emerging as top driver for 2011, something that has taken the rising star by surprise.

"I really never expected to cop as many awards as I received, when I started out the 2011 season, much less the top driver award, so I am truly proud," Gregg told Automotives.

Kyle Gregg is the Rally Sport Drivers Champion, Rookie Rally Sport Champion and the overall Sprint Champion. In addition, he copped the Sprint Champion Class 500, 2WD Sprint championship, was second in the Stages Rally Class Driver Champion and tied for third with Alan Chen in the Stages Rally 2WD Driver Champion.

"This is the first time I am winning the Dover Drivers Championship and the Driver of the Year all in the same season. It is a first for me and for JMMC," Gregg stated. However, Gregg confirmed that he has sold his rally motor car and will not be able to compete in a number of events for the 2012 season.

Getting involved in motorsports was a natural fit for Gregg. "I grew up around the sport. My father (Gary Gregg) still races in rally events and my mother (Sue-Ann Panton) competed in go-kart racing, but she has retired from the sport. It was only natural that my passion for the sport evolved to the point where I am competing," he said.

Gregg was not only driver to win big at the JMMC awards; Matthew 'Magnet' Gore and Maurice Whittingham secured several awards to add to their lists of achievements throughout the 2011 season.

The Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC) is the regulatory body governing motorsports in Jamaica, as appointed by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile. The JMMC oversees all motorsports in Jamaica, namely sprints, drag, circuit, rally, go-karting and dexterities. The JMMC also issues competition licenses and adjudicates all issues, disciplinary or otherwise, relating to motorsports in the country.
