Last October the Urban Development Commission's (UDC) car park in New Kingston was the host venue for the Heelz and Wheelz-promoted car-display event, Modified Meets Cruisers.

On Ash Wednesday there will be a Double Dose, presented by Heelz and Wheelz, whose Orville Francis said the name is homage to the popularity of last year's event. This time, however, there will be a competitive element, the categories including Best Old School, Best Interior, Best Paint Job, Lowest Ride and Cleanest Ride. Old School applies to vehicles made before 1990.

"We are going to have a judging panel for each category," Francis said.

Each panel will be made up of sponsors' representatives and people who have acknowledged expertise in car presentation.

"It won't be judged by the promotional team," Francis said.

However, he emphasised that although there will be prizes for the competitors, the intention is to give a practical demonstration of car care.

"The whole idea is about showing people how they can take care of the rides they have, no matter how old or new it is, making sure that the cars they have on the road they treat with some kind of respect. It is about maintaining your ride, keeping it clean," he said.

Francis said at least 200 cars will be out for viewing and he expects an audience throughout the day that matches or exceeds the approximately 800 which turned up for last October's event.

"The show is getting more popular. People really liked the last two events we did. There is just a demand for a show like that. And then on top of that people's appetite towards these events is growing," he said.

A car-stereo competition is slated for the latter part of the Double Dose Day, which runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
