Powell, Fennell Jr for int'l rally series

The NACAM Rally Championship (NRC) 2012 will be contested over six events in five countries. The events will be in Puebla, Mexico (April 20 - 21), Oaxaca, Mexico (May 18 - 19), Costa Rica (July 6 - 7), Peru (Aug 31 - Sep 1), Panama (Oct 12 - 13) and Colombia (Nov 16 - 17).

NACAM is the regional governing body for motorsport.

Racing in the series will be the team of driver John Fennell and co-driver Mike Fennell Jr. Engineer/mechanic support will be provided by Dom Buckley Motorsports (DBM). The team manager is Peter Clarke.

Powell and Fennell Jr will drive a 2007 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9. It produces 309 BHP and 576 foot pounds of torque. The car was built in Italy and shipped from Mexico. Powell and Fennell Jr will get their first chance to drive the car on Rally Canadas, the first event of the NRC.

Powelll recently won both Rally Trinidad and Rally Jamaica, while Fennell Jr was second at Rally Trinidad and has campaigned internationally in the Caribbean as well the United States. Strong competition is expected from Ricardo Trevino of Mexico, who has competed in Rally Jamaica with a Peugeot.

DBM had the top-three cars in Rally Trinidad - the Subaru Impreza S14 driven by John Powell, Jeff Panton's Ford Focus WRC 06 and the Ford Focus WRC 05 piloted by Gary Gregg. They also supported the Stobart WRC Team.

The winners of the series will receive their trophy, along with other motorsport champions from all genres of the sport including Formula 1, at the annual FIA awards, usually held in Monaco at the end of the sporting year.

The sponsors are FT Faran and Shell Lubricants, plus the Trinidad and Tobago Development Company Limited.
