The countdown has begun for what is anticipated will be one of the country's most competitive circuit racing events, scheduled for the Dover Raceway, St Ann, on Easter Monday, April 1.

"This is it. It will be the Clash of the Titans," remarked Doug Gore, who believes that based on the line-up of drivers, the meet will be a thriller, filled with non-stop action.

"All the drivers that I have spoken to so far have said they are ready. Some have already done major adjustments to their cars. I heard Jeffrey Panton will be there, and with a line-up like this, it could be one of the most competitive events at Dover. I don't believe it is a meet that anyone would want to miss," Gore said.

When contacted, Panton, who is in Barbados competing in one of the rally events, neither confirmed nor denied that he would be among the big guns at Dover on Easter Monday.

Anticipation

Gore anticipates that with the best of the race drivers across the island down to compete, his Audi TT will get the acid test. He is taking no chances and has decided to fly down an engineer from Germany to assist with the tuning on race day.

David Summerbell and his Total Lubricant teammates André Anderson and Kyle Gregg stressed that among their objectives for this meet is for their cars to be much faster and more reliable. "I will be driving the same car. It is ready and just waiting to go to the dyno," Gregg told Automotives on Friday.

Summerbell indicated that his Mitsubishi Evolution was almost ready, and that he was only awaiting the return of one of his crew members from overseas to complete preparations.

Drivers Ready

"We have checked from engine to suspension, and the car should be a little faster, but more reliable over a long period," said Summerbell. André Anderson said he had installed a new engine, which would enhance his chances in the MP3 event.

Though he is off the island attending a major go-kart race meet in Florida, Peter 'Zoom Zoom' Rae has begun his preparations, which should be completed on his return tomorrow.

Despite clinching the championship last year in dramatic fashion, Sebastien Rae is still without a major sponsor, which may cost him the title.

"This meet, I will be driving a Magnum Single-Seater car, formerly owned by Summerbell. At the moment, we are experiencing a problem with the clutch, but that will be sorted out. We are just hoping that the parts will arrive on time from England," Rae said.

Among the other drivers who are expected to do well are George Bayley, Chris Campbell, Guy Fraser, Matthew Gore, Natasha Chung, Alan Chen, and Nigel Edwards.
