Five countries will take part in the Caribbean Motor Race Championship (CRMC) meet slated for Sunday, May 26th. Qualifying is on Saturday, May 25th. Drivers from as far away as Suriname, Guyana and Barbados, as well as nearby Cayman, are expected to grace the Dover raceway, St Ann.

"The cars are already in the island and we are expecting over 12,000 supporters - and more," said Chris McFarlane, president of the Jamaica Race Drivers Club, at Friday's official launch of the meet at the Sports Development Foundation's offices at Phoenix Avenue, St Andrew.

Jamaica is defending champion and top driver David 'King' Summerbell, Jr said he knows the meet will be competitive, as the drivers from Guyana will be out for vengeance, especially Kevin Jeffrey. However, Summerbell said "we have the strongest team and that should give us the edge".

THREE WINS

"I hope to come up with three wins in the championship," added Summerbell.

Representing Jamaica in the female division is Natasha Chang, the first Jamaican female driver to participate in the CMRC. "I hope to give the competitors hell, as my aim is the MP1 record," said Chang.

McFarlane urged fans to support their country and come out early, as he said a lot is in store for the entertainment section with a performance by Bounty Killer. The meet begins at 9 a.m.
