1. Name: Rayeika Sherman

School: Black River High School

Grade: 9

Place in M&M Math Competition: 3rd

Score: 77%

Advice about mathematics: Math is a fun and amazing subject and the reasons why I like it is because some parts of it are challenging but I like a good challenge. Math helps me to solve problems, especially financial problems, as it helps me to budget my money better.

It helps me relax my mind and relieve some stress as I find it fun to practise math. I even try to make up some equations as if I am a mathematician myself. When I study, I make strips of paper and write important information on them, (definitions and formulae) and I also rewrite my notes and put them in question form as if it were an actual exam question.

Mentor/Inspiration: My family; my aunt, my mother and my father. I want to be just like my aunt someday.

2. Name: Sherice Ross

School: Black River High School

Grade: 11

Place in M&M Math Competition: 1st

Score: 97%

Advice about mathematics: I like to challenge myself and I find that in math.

I really, really, really love questions that make you think. When I see a hard question, I get excited. I also realise it helps to train your brain. I am naturally good at math, but for others, I would recommend that you look over what you've learned because in order to be good at math, you have to keep practising. Continue practising different types of questions and ask your teacher questions.

Also, do some brain teasers, it helps you to be better in math, as I said before, it helps train your brain. Try to do questions that make you think outside the box. So practise hard and always look over your notes; don't wait until it's exam time.

Mentor/Inspiration: My mother and Yendi Phillipps.
