It's none of my business

Published:Thursday | January 8, 2015 | 7:48 PMCorine La Font

You know we Caribbean people have a thing when other people are minding your business, you tell them ... it's none of your business! Well, here's the thing. You must take your own advice and with 2015 having just begun, now is as good a time as any to apply that advice and principle into certain areas of your life.

In life, there will be some people who won't like you for one reason or another. Don't spend the time trying to figure out why, conjuring up your own theories or even building up the courage to ask. Just say to yourself, 'It's none of my business'. We spend too much of our time and energy on things that do not and will not move us closer to where we need to go. Let it go and let those who do not like you work it out. You don't have the time!

Your boss or manager at work has been sidestepping you to give you a raise, promotion, or even recognition after all the years you dedicated yourself to the job and company. What do you say? 'It's none of my business'. Turn it around in your favour and know that over all those years, you have gained skills that you wouldn't have gained before. You have built relationships and a network that you wouldn't have had the opportunity to do before. Use that to your advantage, because, while the money or promotion or recognition will make you feel good, it is a temporary feeling. The knowledge and skills you have gained is priceless and can be bartered and negotiated with at another company, or it can even be used to start your own business. Focus on the skills. Start changing your mindset about things that bring temporary gratification and focus on those that bring delayed and long-term gratification.

You are promoting your products and services to your friends and family or showing them an opportunity that could give them a way out and those you know and love reject you. What do you say? 'It's none of my business'. Hard as it may sound, you need to stop taking rejection personally. Some people don't know better, have never seen better and don't think they deserve better. In their eyes, this is it and just be OK with it. If there were non-believers in Christ's time, why won't there be non-believers now? You are not more special than Jesus! So come on. If He dealt with rejection, so can you! But what did He do? He kept reading and growing and personally developing His mind so that He could have the answers when rejection came. He did not allow himself to be personally attached to the response. He moved on, believed, kept the faith and knew that He would find those who would hear, see and follow and as they say, the rest is history!

So then, what is YOUR business?

Your business is to focus on you and what you need to do to get closer to where you need to be. Anything else outside of that which pulls or distracts or takes your attention away or takes up valuable time is none of your business. It will either work itself out or will reveal itself in due time. Make the decision to put your time and energies into positive activities and surround yourself with positive like-minded people who will help you to grow personally and professionally. It can be reading books, expanding your knowledge, attending seminars, conferences and workshops, joining clubs and associations, all of which must be in line with your goals and objectives. Also starting in the week of January 12, I will be hosting and facilitating online chats every Wednesday and Friday titled 'What's Up Wednesdays' and 'Epic Fridays'. Both chats were created to help you keep on point with your goals. Sometimes we start off with such great momentum and by midweek, we tend to get lethargic. These online chats will help to keep you motivated, centred and laser-focused. Epic Fridays ends the week on a high note, ensuring that you can celebrate your wins and be appreciative of all the things, good and bad, that happened in the past week, for they both help you to be a better and stronger individual.

To get access to these FREE calls on Wednesdays and Fridays, all you have to do is the following:

Call in to the conference line: 1-712-432-3066 (US)

Enter Access Code: 847223
