The Jamaica Public Service ( JPS) says there could be power outages as a result of the impact of the impending severe weather and so customers should take the necessary precaution.

The JPS says strong winds can break power lines and bring trees in contact with the power delivery system, and heavy rains can cause landslides and wash away poles.

According to the light and power company, it is preparing to activate its Emergency Operations to facilitate quick response in the event of damage to its transmission and distribution infrastructure.

The company is, however, urging members of the public to be patient, as its teams will first need to make the necessary checks and take precautionary measures to ensure the safe restoration of supply to everyone.

"We may not be able to immediately restore supply after the system has passed," Winsome Callum, director of corporate communications at the JPS.
