Hydel High School captain Oneika McAnuff had to dig coming off the final hurdle to win her school’s fourth 400-metre hurdles title in five years of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships this evening.

McAnuff ended in 56.46 seconds to stave of the challenge of Edwin Allen High School challenger, Tonyann Beckford, 57.14.

Hydel would end with a first and third-place finish after Alliah Baker, 57.14, got the better of Edwin Allen’s Natasha Fox, 58.95.

McAnuff started behind Beckford for most of the race but remained patient until the final 100 metres when she closed the gap.

By the final hurdle, she was in line with Beckford and lengthened her stride to create the distance she needed.

After the race, McAnuff dedicated the win to former Hydel standout, Shiann Salmon, who has a birthday today and who holds the Champs record of 55.78.
