Congratulations! You’re Fired!

With the downturn in the economy and companies' reaction in the wave of rightsizing, downsizing and all the other terminologies that are used, you should be happy that you have been fired!

Do you really know what being fired means? It means FREEDOM! It means now you can do the things you always wanted to do. It means now you are no longer under the thumb or puppetry of others who are in control. It means now is the time you can get those creative juices flowing that you repressed within you for so many years. It means now you can really explore your full potential and challenge yourself to start something that is yours; that can be passed on to your children and family when you leave this world. It means now you have the flexibility of time, power to decide your hours of work, when to take lunch, when to take vacations and breaks for you and the family. It means now you are not limited by the salary that an employer wants to give you at the end of each month; now your earning potential is limitless and you can decide what that limit, if any, should be.

That you earned it and deserve it; for if you put half the time and effort that you put into your 9-5 into your own business or opportunity, you will earn, even if it is a part-time income. There is no question. And best of all, it is YOURS. You will be the direct beneficiary, not your employer. In all, it means that you are ALIVE and you can give yourself the permission to live!

FACETHEFACTS

Be honest. You were not happy with the job anyway. You were just holding on for the sake of having a salary at the end of the month, which, by the way, you weren't pleased with. You justify the salary by saying at least it can pay the bills and cover your costs, but come on, really? Your costs were increasing while the salary was staying the same.

I am not encouraging anyone to leave their job. I am just saying are you really comfortable with the thought that the job is the be-all and end-all for you and your family? Can 20, 30, 40 years in the job allow you to have the life you really want and deserve at the age of 60 or 65? And why wait till 60 or 65 to retire? Wouldn't you want to retire before that, or why retire in the first place? Who came up with the bright idea that you have to retire?

You may have read up to this point and think that I can say all this because I am quite comfortable. Just in case you didn't know, I was in the 9-5 for many years, and don't get me wrong, I am grateful for the experience, for it taught me that I cannot exist in that environment. I felt stifled and knew from very early that I had to find a better way. At that time, when I projected my future five to 10 years, it didn't look good, and I didn't look happy. So no, I am not comfortable.

NOlONGER ABOUT YOU

If you are a person like me, you can never be comfortable, for you set a standard that you need to achieve that is higher than the last. Your dreams and goals become bigger than you. It is no longer about you. It is about making sure that your time here on earth means something, not only to your family and loved ones, but to others whom you haven't met and may never meet. That you can leave a trail for others to follow and know that it is possible!

So being fired might leave you wondering, "What will I do now?" But think about all the things you always wanted to do. How about writing that book? How about that building project or that painting project or going back to your passion of painting? How about travelling or volunteering? How about putting all those together in a business venture that will allow you to do all that and more?

Don't look at being fired, rightsized or downsized as something bad. When I do my coaching calls and persons attend who were or still in that position and would like to transition from a 9-5 into their own business, I say to them: "Congratulations for being fired. You are now free!" It's all a matter of perspective.

You see up to this point, we have been brainwashed to think that the life we are living now is it. It can't get better than this. I may be crazy, but you know what I think? I think and truly believe it can get better than this, like Steve Harvey said in his new book, Take the Lid off the Jar. Don't let your environment determine where you go in life. Start today by blocking any more limiting beliefs which come through a series of brainwashing from childhood from holding you back. Start setting unreasonable goals and becoming unreasonable in your actions to achieve those goals. You can do it!
